On a day that celebrates conspicuous consumption, the true meaning of the season should not be lost. I am not religious, so 25 December has nothing to do with Jesus according to my worldview. However, I can suspend my disbelief to acknowledge the possibility that there is an historical context to the fable of a disillusioned man who worked for social reform within his community. Anyone who would have spoken against the Roman occupation of Judea is worthy of study.
Whether one is a follower of Jesus, casual observer, or flat-out nonbeliever, the question WWJD? is an important one to ponder. The whole point of it is to get us to think about how far we're willing to go to help those in need. In keeping with the spirit of compassion and goodwill that should be a priority every day of the year, I bring you a story about a man down on his luck and the good Samaritans that offered a ray of hope:
