    Previously…

obsessed with this idea i am that when i'm "asleep" i'm actually walking around and living life as someone else. like what i mean is i am literally some other person. when i'm "asleep" i clearly "see" (experience/feel?) that i'm waking up, taking a shower, putting on a shirt and slacks and a tie (usually a purple one with diamond shapes), pouring coffee and then standing in front of the sink to drink it and maybe there's a piece of toast involved. i grab keys out of a fishbowl on a table in a hallway and walk out the front door into blinding white light. everything is soft and i'm doing more floating than one step two step three … walking on clouds? fog–cotton ball thick–with static cling. can't see but can hear loudish whispers:

    here he is
    there he goes
    right on time
    wonders and woes

usually during this bit (what the hello??) that purple tie feels really tight around my neck.

    answer autumn's call.

  • No WorriesDaisy is happy she gets to eat fish kibble at her cousin's house. Dreams are sweet when you're swimming in a bowl of tails and scales and entrails. Daisy's dressed all festive for fall, too. Autumn gives us all sweater-and-scarf thoughts. No worries, pumpkin.

  • Mom's RecipeWhat you are meant to have will show up on your porch eventually. It may be festively beribboned. It may sit at the bottom of a grease-stained Wendy's sack. "It" is the opportunity you work on in the quiet moments of a busy day. Or, in spurts of activity that come with the full moon. Keep doing what you do. Strong movement is underfoot even when your feet are asleep. We’re on pins and needles around here; the adventure is about to begin. Do you remember all those months ago when your head said No and your heart said Hell Yeah?

There's a knock at the door.

  • Small bookish primateTurn your world upside down and see what falls out of its pockets. Any keepers, tossers, or mysteries mixed in with the lint? What have you been holding on to? Does it hug you back (like maybe a small primate with its digits around your neck?) Cartwheels reveal frightfully forgotten things.

  • ProtectionYou are starting over and you're happy to do it. There is no time like that one time which should have passed in a jiffy but is in continuous playback mode. No change in sight. Pull loops tight on circuitous thoughts. Don't fear the plateau. It's a springboard into the unknown. And here's a complimentary sample pack of protection for the road because, you know, you're starting over. Again.

  • Reheat

Cadie Coleman hated how the pale yellow kitchen walls mocked her.

         You're no good, daft woman.

Why even have us if all you do is thaw and heat?

Yo bitch, I'm still covered in crayon over here!

Eat me, said the one with the Bon Appétit poster.

Cadie ignored the taunts and loaded the microwave with fat and sodium reduced cuisine in a convenient plastic tray.

  • Jenny's DefinitionJenny loves Johnny. Johnny's totally wrong for Jenny but what does she know about love? Love is a lucky charm that keeps Jenny safe from loneliness. Jenny's lucky charm, though, has no power over her other troubles.

    Trip on your shoelaces.

    Repeat.

    Walk into a wall.

    Repeat.

    Repeat.

There's no shade of concealer down at Walgreens that covers up eggplant purple.

  • SmellBut why is it comfortable to be numb? No one likes to think of herself as a dolt. You need to trust your senses when top secret messages fall from the sky. How else are we supposed to figure out the meaning of life? Don't you want to know? Do you find any of this the least bit interesting? I'm fascinated no matter how you answer that. Tell me what energizes you each morning. And since you're a cough–wiseass–cough I know what you want to say, so don't.
